Wearing a non-medical face mask does not replace hygiene standards and does not guarantee protection against COVID-19. You should always avoid touching your face, wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap, and practice social distancing.

As parts of Canada enter new phases of COVID-19 protocols, it is important for Canadians to remember that it is still possible to contract the virus and become very ill, even if you are vaccinated.

Although provinces are starting to lift restrictions on masks, many people are still not ready to give up wearing protective masks in public.

Earlier this month, Canada’s deputy chief public health officer, Dr Howard Njoo, said wearing a face mask is a “personal choice as part of individual risk assessment “.

Additionally, Dr. Theresa Tam, the country’s chief public health officer, recently urged Canadians not to stigmatize anyone who chooses to wear a mask even after restrictions are lifted.

Think about who you are…maybe they are more at risk, so (have) that consideration for others,” Tam said, reiterating that there are still people who remain vulnerable to COVID-19 and other diseases.

Also, masks are still required in many public places depending on your local regulations. In Ontario, for example, masks remain mandatory in health care facilities, long-term care and retirement homes, public transit, congregate care facilities, shelters and prisons.

For Canadians keen to take advantage of soon-to-be-easing travel restrictions in the country, you will still need to don a mask at airports and rail terminals, as well as on planes and trains.

According to a reviewer who claims to be a medical professional, Thinka face masks are “better” than many other disposable medical masks.

These are level one face masks that are “procedural and suitable for everyday wear”, they say. They are “better” than many other masks used in non-COVID ward hospitals.

Another shopper says these are the “best masks” you can buy online. Why? They “fit my face perfectly” so my glasses “don’t fog up.”

They’re perfect for those who wear glasses, echoes a third reviewer. The “best part for me” is being able to get a “snug fit” on the bridge of my nose to “reduce fogging of my glasses”.

However, some shoppers say the masks are “itchy and irritating.”

I found the material “very rough” on the inner lining, says one reviewer.

They fit ‘well’ but have a ‘rough material’ inside, according to another.
