Eyepiece-less microscope allows use with goggles and safety masks – Metrology and Quality News

As COVID-19 stay-at-home and lockdown restrictions are lifted and employees return to work, businesses face the challenge of keeping employees safe in the workplace without disrupting inspection processes and the productivity.

Invariably, old ways of working must be changed and, in many cases, equipment adapted to meet new health and safety standards imposed on employees.

The eyes are lined with mucous membranes, a thick protective liquid. This membrane mainly serves to prevent dirt and grit from entering your body through the eyes, while ensuring that your eyes remain well hydrated. However, with COVID-19, this mucous membrane becomes an easy access point for the virus to enter your body.

When observing a subject under a binocular microscope, the user should position their eyes at a precise distance behind the eyepiece. This is called eye relief, usually around 16mm. Any position higher than this will result in the operator losing field of vision and distortion. This means that the operator must position himself where his eyes are in contact with or very close to the eyepieces, which presents a high risk of cross-contamination.

Vision Engineering’s eyepieceless microscopes are different; their patented eyepieceless microscopes can be used with safety glasses and masks, helping to protect staff without disrupting productivity.

Vision Engineering technology offers up to 10mm of freedom side to side and 70mm front to back. Exit pupils between 25mm and 35mm greatly facilitate alignment with the user’s eyes. Eye relief is extended up to 38mm, which increases the space between the user and the microscope, leaving enough room for goggles and masks without affecting performance.

Patented Vision Engineering optical technology eliminates the need for restrictive eyepieces of a conventional microscope, allowing operators freedom of head movement, providing superior ergonomics and eye-hand coordination, as well as the ability to wear glasses, if needed.

Vision Mantis microscopes offer superior optical performance, great depth of field for industrial, cosmetic and scientific applications.
