WhatsApp appears to be embracing the future by apparently working on a high-tech messaging system that would see people dictate messages to a pair of specs.
The new feature would allow users to send messages to family and friends without having to type them by simply saying them out loud on smart glasses.
This was noted by developers of mobile software XDA, who found references to the feature hidden in WhatsApp beta code and is linked to Ray-Ban Stories, which are smart glasses created by the owner of WhatsApp. , Facebook.
Here’s what you need to know about the potential texting functionality of WhatsApp’s smart glasses.
What are Ray-Ban Stories?
Ray-Ban Stories is a collaboration between EssilorLuxottica and Ray-Ban, launched in 2021.
Smart glasses, which are designed to look like a regular pair of glasses, but actually have the ability to shoot things you can see, after which you can upload the footage to social media.
With built-in cameras and three microphones, the smart glasses allow you to capture photos and videos as well as answer phone calls.
Videos are recorded in 1184×1184 resolution at 30 frames per second, with a 105 degree field of view.
Clips can be up to 30 seconds long and it’s also possible to capture 2592 x 1944 pixel images instead of video if you prefer.
You’ll be able to store 30 videos and 500 photos on the device itself, but you can also move them in seconds to the new Facebook View app and wipe the device for easy reuse.
To activate the camera, simply press the button on the glasses or use a “Hey Facebook” voice command. Voice control can also be used for texting, just like the WhatsApp feature which has yet to be launched.
There is no news on when exactly the WhatsApp smart glasses text feature will be launched. There might be a trial version on the WhatsApp beta in the future for fans to test new features first, before the official release.
