EnChroma, Inc. – makers of eyeglasses for color blindness – today announced the new EnChroma® Cx3 Sun SP ™ lens, a new lens specially designed for people with severe protan-type color vision deficiency (CVD). The Cx3 Sun SP lens offers a wider range of clear and vibrant colors optimized to meet the visual needs of people with strong protanomaly.
The Cx3 Sun SP lens is now available online at EnChroma.com and will also be available from licensed EnChroma eye care professionals in mid-November. Any style of EnChroma eyewear for adults and children can be made with this new addition to the lens line that includes the best-selling Cx3 Sun Outdoor lens and Cx1 Indoor lens, each designed for different categories of lighting conditions.
“Drawing on more than a decade of research and innovation, we are excited to bring vivid colors to strong protans, a group particularly prone to color blindness as they typically see an even more limited color gamut compared to the average person with color vision deficiencies. “said Andrew Schmeder, CEO and Co-Founder of EnChroma.” Providing a solution specifically for this underserved group is a testament to our ability to develop technology for color blindness that enables access to color for all. ”
“I have been wearing EnChroma glasses for almost three years now and am still overwhelmed by the colorful world that I am able to enjoy every day,” said Joyce Watters of Roseville, Calif., Color blind IT account manager. “Life is so much richer and better in beautiful colors. EnChroma lenses make colors more distinct and vibrant than I could have imagined.
Strong protans have difficulty seeing red and colors containing red and are often more strongly affected by their condition. People with strong protanomaly represent up to 10% of the 300 million blind people worldwide.
“The EnChroma SP lens for powerful protans is a game-changer as it offers color blind people more individualized solutions,” said master optician Barry Santini of Long Island Opticians in Seaford, New York. “I appreciate that my color blind patients can now try EnChroma lenses for all types of red-green color blindness, including mild, moderate and strong. “
Color blindness affects one in 12 men (8%) and one in 200 women (0.5%) – about 300 million worldwide and about 13 million in the United States. EnChroma lenses allow red-green color blind people to see a wider range of clear, vibrant colors. Special optical filters in the lenses remove small slices of light from the visible spectrum to more accurately report the light entering the eye. This allows color blind people to experience a more normal spectral response and participate more fully in colorful moments in life.
